Cocktails For A Cause- Event of The Season!

On Sunday April 22, Casal’s de Spa and Salon hosted the first annual Earth Month charity event Cocktails For A Cause at The Youngstown Club. Featuring Earth Month themed cocktails and appetizers, raffle baskets, and door prizes, there was also a model competition for our staff called The Water Warrior. Each team would outfit their model in re-purposed and recycled materials, then our guests “voted’ on their favorite with donations. The team getting the most donations was the winner! Congratulations to our spa team (Sam, Jane, Elizabeth and Lea) on their winning look. Inspired by Hollywood, they reused old film and movie tickets to create a whole new ensemble. It was a good time for all the guests and staff involved and a great way to raise money for clean water initiatives in the U.S.

Eastwood Expo Bridal Extravaganza 2012

Casal’s de Spa and Salon partnered again this year with the Eastwood Mall to present the Eastwood Expo Bridal Extravaganza 2012. Our talented staff provided the hair and makeup for all the David’s Bridal segments as well as Casal’s own “haute couture” pre-show. Taking cues from the art scene of London as well as pop culture icons like Lady Gaga, the looks were edgy meets romantic. Always an inspiring show, this year was no exception and we can’t wait to see what our team creates for 2013!

Casals Holiday Open House 2011

This past month, Casals in both Canfield and Howland hosted their annual Holiday Open House. Surrounded by artful decorations, guests enjoyed refreshments, delicious homemade appetizers, music, and special incentives. Additionally, services such as moisturizing hand treatments and aroma journey’s were preformed on guests to revitalize their spirits. One attendee stated, “I wait all year for this, and it was well worth it!”. Another remarked, “Wow…this isn’t like any other open house I’ve been to!”. As always, Casals strives to be an industry leader in all areas, and our events are no exception.

“Art for the Earth”

We are proud to announce our new “Art Gallery” at the Canfield location. We have over 30 pieces from 5 artists. Three of the artists are local and two are from out of town. There are sculptures, photography, watercolors and collage art on display. Most of the pieces are for sale and a portion from the sale of each piece will go towards our Earth Month fundraising. Each year Casal’s make a donation to Aveda’s local Earth Month Partner. This year was the Sierra Club of Ohio. Our donations helped the Sierra Club’s Clean Water Campaign whose goal is to improve water quality; producing healthier, more active communities through awareness, action and administrative advocacy. Runway Project 2011

Sunday, February 20, 2011, stylists from Casal’s de Spa and Salon Canfield and Howland locations stepped out from behind the chair and brought their creativity outside the box. Actually, in this year’s competition, the box was the focus of the creative process.
Nine teams of three Casal’s employees were given mystery boxes, each containing supplies to create a complete look. The teams were required to use each item – black fabric, white fabric, various patterned fabric, buttons, needle and thread and a hot glue gun. From these came nine very different, hand-made styles.
The team I was on – Sarah Messaros, Jess Hill, model Hannah Messaros and myself (Kelsey Higginbotham)- were inspired by recent nautical looks. We created a modern sailor style “Nautical by Nature”. We came across some challenges and roadblocks that required us to tweak our original idea, but with teamwork we came through and designed and executed a look that made us proud.
The looks that were created by these stylists, esthiologists and office team members were truly inspiring. Working 6:00pm until 9:00pm on Saturday, and 7:00am until 1:30pm on Sunday was a tight time frame that caused anxiety, excitement, creativity and stress – all leading the creative completion.
This was my first time to compete in Casal’s annual Runway Project – definitely not my last!
